Calgary.—When beavers started building a dam in a railway culvert near here recently, the roadmaster thought that a lighted lantern would frighten them away. Inspecting the culvert next morning, he discovered that the little animals had done twice as much work as usual, apparently working double shifts by the aid of the light. The lantern plan was abandoned and other methods had to be used to chase the little dam-builders away.
