EXHIBITION DISPLAYS
TRANSPARENCY OR MODEL FOR MASTERTON. MATTER FURTHER CONSIDERED. Further consideration to the question of a transparency as against a model of the town of Masterton at the Centennial Exhibition was given at the last meeting of the Executive of the Wellington Provincial Court.. The Mayor of Masterton, Mr T. Jordan, had raised an objection to a previous decision to allot a transparency for Masterton in the belief that a model would be the better proposition.
The executive decided to hold the matter in abeyance meantime, so that the architect, Mr R. Muston, might dis - cuss the matter with Mr Jordan.
The Mayor of Palmerston North (Mr A. E. Mansford) indicated at the executive meeting that his preference as far as Palmerston North was concerned, was for a transparency. His opinion was formed after he had seen the transparency of Gisborne, which was already in the Court.
Following on Mr Jordan’s discussion of the matter with Mr Muston, Mr Jordan said he was inclined to favour a transparency for Masterton. At the meeting of the executive it was explained that the contractors were prepared to supply a model of a freezing works for inclusion in the Court.
As against this the secretary intimated that he was in a position to know that both Otago and Southland would also be displaying a freezing works. That being so, it was thought that the Wairarapa, to which it was intended to apply a freezing works model, might feel that it would be better served if some other model, indicative of sheep farming, were obtained An animated shearing shed was suggested. The matter was referred to Mr P. E. Pattrick (chairman) and the secretary (Mr E. M. Bardsley) to consult Mr Jordan for final decision.
