“Subject to our required members obtaining leave from work, the club being able to raise the necessary finance, the team being accommodated in Wellington at reasonable rates, the world war not developing, the present Government not restricting everything, and the country not being bankrupt, the New Brighton Club will be there.’' This was the reply received by the Canterbury Surf Association to an enquiry as to the part the local clubs were going to take in the Centennial championships in February at Wellington.
