PERSONAL ITEMS (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs West, of Bluff, is the guest ol Mrs Bragg. Constable C. Mclntosh, of the Auck land police force, who has been spend ing his leave with his parents, will return to Auckland on Sunday. The funeral of the late Mr W. Piripi was held at Kohunui on Saturday. There was a large attendance of both Maoris and pakehas. The funeral ser vice was conducted by Elder Taurau. Mr and Mrs D. G. Sutherland are on a visit to the South Island. Mr and Mrs Albert Te Maire, Wanga • nui, are visiting relatives in this dist rict. Mr and Mrs R. Clark, who have been residents at Tuhitarata for a numbei of years, have bought a property in Masterton where they will in future reside. Mr Stan Clark, who was recently married, will continue to farm the Tuhitarata property. Football and Basketball. The inter-school football and basketball matches between the local school and Kahutara were played here when the local school won both matches by substantial margins. Mantle of Snow. A thick mantle of snow covers the highest levels as the result of the cold southerly weather experienced during the past few days. Queen Carnival. Keen interest is being taken by local residents in the queen contest in con nection with the Green and Gold Ball to be held on August 16 and they are leaving nothing to chance to ensure the success of the local candidate. Functions of all kinds are being held to raise funds. Preparations for the ball are well forward and it is expect ed that this year's ball will be the social event of the season.

Golf Competitions Postponed.

Owing to the funeral of the late Mr W. Piripi there was no competition at the local golf links on Saturday.
