ASSURANCE SOUGHT
FROM FEDERAL MINISTRY AGAINST CONSCRIPTION. UNIONS & THE REGISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The “Herald’s” Melbourne correspondent says that if the Federal Ministry is prepared to promise a legislative assurance against industrial and military conscription, it is regarded as certain that the opposition of trades unions to the national register will be withdrawn. Such a promise will be sought when Messrs Menzies and Street meet the Federal Labour Advisory Committee on Friday.
