COAL SUPPLIES
BRITISH PLANS AGAINST EMERGENCY. ELABORATE ORGANISATION. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 17. In view of the vital importance of coal in wartime, comprehensive plans are being prepared in consultation with those concerned for the maintenance of production of coal in time of war and the control, distribution and price of coal, coke and manufactured fuel. Outlining the plans today in the House of Commons, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Home Office, Mr Geoffrey Lloyd, said that control, of supplies and the pithead prices would be exercised through the existing coal marketing schemes, and arrangements had been made to deal with the control of supplies in the consuming districts as well as at the point of production. A system of priorities would be established to ensure supplies of coal for the essential industries, and a scheme for regulating the supplies of coal, gas, and electricity to domestic and other small consumers would be administered through the local authorities. The necessary officers had been appointed and the organisation could, if required, be brought into immediate operation.
