OBITUARY
MRS SARAH MURRAY. The death occurred yesterday at her residence, Cornwall Street, Masterton, * of Mrs Sarah Murray, widow of the late Mr Thomas Hope Murray, in her 83rd year. The late Mrs Murray, who had been in ill-health for some time past, was born at Lower Hutt in 1857. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs C Potts, very early settlers of the Hutt district. Later they shifted to Tauherenikau, where Mrs Murray was married in 1878. Since her marriage she had resided in Masterton. Her husband predeceased her many years ago and a son, Mr T. H. Murray, died in 1918. She is survived by one son, Mr R. P. Murray and one daughter, Miss A. V. Murray, both of Masterton. The interment will be private.
MRS BRIDGET McGRUDDY.
The late Mrs Bridget McGruddy, of Mangamahoe, whose death, which occurred yesterday morning, was briefly reported in yesterday's issue, was 75 years of age. She was born in County Kerry, Ireland, and came to New Zea' land when she was 16 years old. After living for a time at Timaru she came to the Wairarapa about 1884, following her marriage in Christchurch, and resided for two or three years at Upper Plain. She then took up her residence at Mangamahoe where she had lived ever since. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs J. Braddick (Mangatainoka) and Miss M. McGruddy (Mangamahoe) and one son, Mr William James McGruddy (Mangamahoe), besides 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will take place in Masterton tomorrow and will leave St Patrick’s Church, following Requiem Mass to be celebrated at 9 a.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. MRS G. H. KUMMER. The death occurred at her residence. 85 Cole Street, this morning of Mrs Dora Christina Fredica Kummer, widow of the late Mr G. H. Kummer, of Kumnierstein, at the age of 91 years. The late Mrs Kummer, who had resided in New Zealand for the past 69 years, arrived in this country in 1870 and the following year she was married to Mr Kummer at Greytown. For the greater part of her life she lived at Kummerstein but following on her husband’s death about ten years ago she took up her residence in Masterton. The late Mrs Kummer was of acheerful disposition and had a kind and sympathetic nature, invariably being ready to give assistance to those in need. She was a staunch supporter of the Church of England. Mrs Kummer is survived by three sons and two daughters. The funeral will leave St Matthew’s Church on Thursday, after a service commencing at 2 p.m., for the Masterton cemetery.
