NATIONAL WELFARE

MASTERTON LEAGUE MEETING. BOOKS AND CLOTHING WANTED. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held at the Midland Hotel yesterday. There were present:—Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames Collie, Drummond, Fletcher, Charleson, Tolhurst, Henderson, Watson, Glen, and Miss Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Whyborn, Harrison, Garland, Pither, Kilgour, McKenzie, Caselberg. Coleman, Jordan, and Misses Beiliss and Guild. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs A. W. McKenzie in her recent bereavement, and a tribute was paid to the splendid work of the late Mrs Smith, who had done a great deal of knitting to be distributed by the League. Two visits to the hospital were reported, when flowers, sweets, etc., had been distributed. The visiting committee stated that there was a great need of reading matter. Anybody desirous of helping should leave books, periodicals, etc., at Page’s. Visitors for August will be Mesdames Watson, Drummond, Collie and Miss Kummer. The Buchanan Home had been visited during the past month. Mrs Fletcher submitted a report on welfare work for the month, and said that there was still need for clothing, which may bo left at Shoosmith’s. A contribution is gratefully acknowledged from Mr Neal Irwin.
