FEATHERSTON

WOMEN’S DIVISION SIXTH BIRTHDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Featherston branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union celebrated its sixth birthday with a party held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Wakely, president, welcomed the large attendance of members and visitors from Martinborough, Carterton, Greytown and Pahautea. A vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr Tate, Mrs Tabart and Mr Chas. Matthews, members standing in silence. Mrs Arch. Clark led a short community sing, and items were given by the following: Mesdames Arch. Clark, B. Burt. Houston, Boston. Willett. Misses S. Smith and G. Saba. Greetings were given by the various visiting presidents, Mesdames Ross (Pahautea), Allen (Carterton), and Beu (Greytown). Mrs Beu gave a short talk on the work of division. Afternoon tea was served and Mrs Wakley presented the visiting presidents with posies made by Mrs Tutbury. The birthday cake was made and donated by Mrs Wakely and iced and decorated with its six candles by Mrs C. Carter. The candles were lighted by Mrs M. B. Tait and extinguished by Mrs Ross (Pahautea). Euchre Tourney. 1 The first of the euchre tournaments in aid of Eoy Scouts was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Tuesday, when there was a good attendance. The winners were:—Ladies: Mrs Watson. 1; Mrs Mambry, 2. Men: Mr Rea, 1; Mr Rewai, 2. Funeral. There was a large attendance at the funeral of Mr W. Collins, a former resident of Featherston, which took place on Tuesday. The service was conducted by the Rev. J. T. Holland, and the pall-bearers were Messrs W. Fellingham, H. Torrey. W. Johnson, and Petone railway workshops employees. Personal. Miss J. Brash, on the relieving staff of the Featherston Primary School, has been appointed assistant at Martinborough.
