WRESTLING
POINTS WIN FOR BLOMFIELD. REFEREE KEPT BUSY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The referee. Mr Alf. Jenkins, was kept busy when Lofty Blomfield. New Zealand champion wrestler, beat the South African champion. Frank Forster. on points, one fall each. Forster brought some novel gambits from the Zulus and the high veldt. He set the pace throughout the bout, and took an early fall by mule-kicking Blomfield to the mat and pinning him in the second round. In the sixth round, however, he fell an easy victim to Blomfield's octopus clamp. Infringements were constant throughout the rough, vigorous contest, and at times it became reminiscent of the prize ring. Forster made good use of elbow jolts and rabbit punches. Blomfield took a tremendous amount of punishment in good part. KIRCHMEYER BEATEN. McCready carried from ring. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 3. A packed house in the Town Hall saw Earl McCready, 17.2, beat Rollend Kirchmeyer, 17.3. tonight by a submission fall, but McCready had to be carried from the ring after spending the last two and a quarter minutes of the bout in Kirchmeyer's vicious python clutch. The bout was an outstanding exhibition of straight wrestling, and by no means devoid of extra thrills. McCready scored the only fall. After receiving several jolts in the seventh round he retaliated with a solid jab and dived on to the dazed Kirchmeyer. The latter was tipped up in a rolling hold and his weight was concentrated on the back of his neck. The circumstances indicated a quick submission, and Kirchmeyer submitted. The last round was packed with action, and the crowd was in a frenzy when Kirchmeyer wrapped McCready’s legs in a python clutch. The Canadian saw the round out amid great excitement, but first aid men were among those who ultimately carried him from the ring.
