GAME OF CHESS FORTNIGHTLY GATHERING (“Times-Age" Special.) The fortnightly chess gathering took place at Mr C. Collier’s residence on Friday evening last. The results were as follows;—Mr Hayes A v A. Maidrnent 21; Mr Sewell 3 v Mr Whimp 0; S. H. Barcham 1 v Mr Quinn 0; C. Collier 1 v R. L. Field 2; A. J. Thompson 5 v E. A. Heyder 0; J. Wood 2 v A. Clapshaw 1; I. Bladen 1 v S. Field 1. Rainfall for June The total rainfall for June was 5.70 inches, rain falling on 17 days. The maximum fall was 1.35 inches on June 20. In June, 1938, there were 18 wet days and the fall was 5.18 inches. Vital Statistics The vital statistics for June were: — Births 4. deaths 1. marriages 1. Personal Items. Mrs J. George, Pahiatua, is paying a short visit to Featherston. The friends of Mr Jack Hatton will regret to hear that he is very ill. suffering from the after effects of the war. : Mrs D. Edwards (Wellington) wa£ a weekend visitor to Featherston and was the guest of her mother, Mrs Tullock. Lecture on Pigs Mr M. J. Scott, superintendent of the pig industry, will give a lecture on Friday night, before members of the Young Farmers' Club in the Racing Club’s building.
