GOLF BALL A BRILLIANT GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Town Hall was packed with dancers on the occasion of the Golf Club Ball on Friday night. Visitors were present from Wanganui, Palmerston North and Wellington, and throughout the Wairarapa. The hall was tastefully decorated in the club colours, blue and gold, and spotlights trained on the decorations gave a striking effect. Udy’s Orchestra supplied the music. The orchestra was placed on a specially built platform in the dress circle. Extras were contributed by Mr T. Kirk-Burnnand, of Wellington, and Mrs H. G. Carter (piano), A. Carter (piano accordion), and H. G. Carter (drum). The joint secretaries, Miss M. Wood and J. W. Tate, assisted by members of the club, had made excellent arrangements for lhe gathering which was a most enjoyable and successful one. Golf Games. The results of the second round of the ladies’ bogey competition played on Saturday were: Miss Nix, 1 down; Mrs Horner, 2 down; Mrs C. Ingley, 3 down; Mrs Gold, 5 down; Mrs Thompson, 5 down; Mrs Jury, 6 down; Miss E. Gregor, 7 down; Mrs Maddison, 8 down. On Saturday a Stableford competition was played. The best cards handed in were: —A Carter, 35; T. Nelson, 29; Pfeiy Ingley, 29; N. McLeod, 29. In a, handicap reduction made this week A. Carter was reduced from 19 to. 16. Waiwetu paid a return visit to Greytown on Sunday. Although the morning was wet conditions improved in the afternoon. A fourball competition resulted in a win for Waiwetu by 4 games to 3 with 5 all square. In the singles games Waiwetu won by 14 games to 6. Personal. The many friends of Constable A. Gregor will be pleased to know that he is making steady progress towards recovery after the injuries he recently suffered during the execution of his duty. Rainfall Registered. A total of 339 points for 13 wet days were registered in Greytown in June. The maximum fall was 69 points on June 19. In the corresponding month last year the total of 271 points for 13 wet days.
