WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

UPPER PLAIN MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute was held recently at the residence of Mrs Mannell. Mrs M. Condon occupied the chair in the absence of Mrs Gordon Dagg. There was a good attendance of members. During the afternoon Miss Jansen gave a very interesting talk on her brothers travels and experiences in Japan, and she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Miss Trass gave a demonstration on tatting which proved very interesting and for which she was heartily thanked. The competitions for the month re suited as follows: —Wholemeal loaf Mrs W. Taplin, 1; Mrs C. R. Jones, 2. Best bloom, Mrs W. Taplin, 1; Mrt Jones, 2. Best scrap book, Mrs Jones, 1; Miss Cohen, 2. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Tankersley, Jones, Curly and Miss Cohen. A very enjoyable gathering was brought to a close, with the singing of the National Anthem.
