THETIS INQUIRY

JUDGE VISITS PORTSMOUTH. NO SEA TRIP IN SUBMARINE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 23. Mr Justic Bucknill, who is to conduct the inquiry into the sinking of the submarine Thetis, is to visit Portsmouth tomorrow prior to the opening of the inquiry. With him will be Captain Menzies, an experienced submarine officer, who has been appointed one of the three expert assessors for the inquiry. They will lunch with Rear-Admiral Watson, Rear-Admiral commanding submarines for Blockhouse, which is the headquarters of the British submarine service. Mr Justice Bucknill will be shown a demonstration of the Davis escape apparatus in the special training tank and will later see a sister ship of the Thetis. There is no question of any sea trip in a submarine.
