REPRODUCTIVE WORK
SCHEME FOR UNEMPLOYED CONFERENCE TO-BE HELD IN MASTERTON. It is expected that the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, or an official of his department will visit Masterton. next week to confer with local bodies and representatives of Government departments to consider the provision of work of a reproductive nature for all physically fit men at present on the unemployment register. Similar meetings have been held in other, parts of New Zealand. Asked this morning about the position locally, the Placement Officer, Mr J. G. Hanaghan, said that there was nothing unusual in the number of unemployed in Masterton at the present time. Practically all' were seasonal workers and the number was certainly no more than it was at the corresponding period last year. Furthermore, an improvement should be noticeable next month.
