WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY DAIRY FARMERS AND TRAFFIC FEES. EXPRESSION OF OPINION ’ SOUGHT. (“Times-Age" Special.) A general rate of 1 5-8 d and a hospital rate of 11-20 d was struck at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council. The general rate is the same as that of last year, but the hospital rate has been increased by one-twentieth of a penny. Those present at the meeting were the chairman, Mr- D. McGregor and Councillors Alex McGregor, C. A. Cameron, F. W. Joblin, F. Court,. L. S Gallon, W. A. Renall, E. W. Allen and W, E. Reid. It was decided to write to various county councils in the Wairarapa to obtain an expression of opinion in regard to relieving the dairy farmer of heavy traffic fees. It was further decided to inform the other counties that the Wairarapa South County was in favour of giving relief, but ‘could not act alone. Accounts amounting to £3252 Ils 7d were passed. During the month there were some small fish in the river, and the water had to be cut down, only one box being in use, stated the Taratahi waterrace report. General clearing and maintenance work was attended to. The Carrington water-race report stated that during the month there had been some small floods in the river, and a fair amount of soakage into the races. Grading in of metal had been done and watertables cleared on the Taratahi and Ahikouka roads, reported the overseer. The haunches had been graded off and the metal graded in on Miller’s and Longbush roads. Metal-, ling was continued during the month' on- the Wainuioru Valley Road, and this will probably be completed this week. Eighteen days’ crushing was done at Gladstone, making a total of approximately 1,400 cubic yards of metal which had been crushed and dumped. On the Hoeke Road, the haunches had been graded off and the road shaped up and the full length metalled. Grading in of the metal was carried out on the Hughe’s, East Taratahi, Cornwall, Perry’s, Bristol, Somerset, Francis, Waitangi and Kokotau roads. Patch metalling was done on the Swamp, Jervois and Moffat’s roads.
