Montreal—Cargo tonnage passing through the port of Montreal during the shipping season of 1938 established a new high record of 1.670.384 tons, an increase of 330.750 tons over 1937. Ships entering and clearing from the port numbered 5726 with a net registered tonnage of 8.589,519 tons as compared with 3985 ships of 8,024,293 tons in 1937.
