GOLF COMPETITIONS FEATHERSTON TEAM DEFEATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) .The weather was ideal for golf on Saturday and there was a good muster of members. The last rounds for both the Miss McDougall trophy and the Campbell Cup were played. The former trophy was won by Miss Herangi with Mrs Sutherland second. The Campbell Cup was won by K. Waiwera with a net aggregate score of 212 for the best three cards with M. Herangi second.
Mesdames Sutherland and Bragg played off for the Mollie Hume Memorial Cup. the former being the winner. Trophies were won by Mrs McKen ■ zie and R. McDougall for the best net scores in the final round of the Miss McDougall trophy and Campbell Cup.
Mrs Bruce McMaster was a competitor at the Tinui golf tourney over the weekend. The return inter-club match against Featherston was played on the local links at the weekend. The weather was fine. Owing to several of the leading players .of the local club being una - voidably absent, the services of other players were called in. The games were keenly contested and resulted in a win for the home team by 6i games to a half in the fourball, and a loss by 6 games to 7 in the singles (two matches being halved). The results were as follow (Pirinoa players first mentioned in each case): —Singles: J. Pike beat K. Allen. G. Munro lost to J. Wilson, D. Tikao lost to W. Fountain ; M. Herangi lost to W. Lovegrove, J. Carter lost to D. McWilliams. S. Thomas beat M. Benton; W. Charleris beat J. Willett, White and Friend all square. Four ball: D. Tiwao and M. Herangi squared with W. Jeffrey and Fountain G. Nimmo and J. Pike beat K. Allen and J. Wilson, D. Jones and J. Riwai beat H. McCarty and McCallum, G. Sutherland and G. Hall beat Hoby and Carlyon, A Pike and K. Featherston 71. Personal Items. Mrs Martin Hume returned to Wanganui on Sunday. Mr Trevor Hume was among the weekend visitors to Wellington. Mr Scanlon, Nelson, was a visitor to the district for a few days. Miss Smith, Nelson, is visiting her grandmother, Mrs Duggan. Mr and Mrs Stan Mclntosh are visiting Napier for the wedding of Mr Stan Jensen, who formerly resided in this district. Messrs M. McLeod and S. Chapman, who have been on a motor tour of the north, returned home on JSaturday evening. Mr A. Linton, who was recently returned unopposed for the Dairy Control Board, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. The many friends of Mr J. Yates will be pleased to learn that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Miss Joan Hood has been selected by the Kahutara branch of the Women’s Institute as a candidate for the Queen contest in connection with the forthcoming Green and Gold ball. Residents of the district will regret to learn that Mrs Simmonds is an inmate of the private hospital in Martinborough. Her condition was reported to show a slight improvement. Land Flooded. / As a result of the recent rains the water in the lake has risen rapidly. The low lying'lands in this locality are well inundated. Prospects for shooters do not look reassuring for the close of the season. Institute Ball. The Women’s Institute ball will be held in the Memorial Hall, Pirinoa, on Tuesday, June 27. Lovers of dancing are asked not to miss one of the best social events of the season. Udy’s band is to supply the music.
