FEATHERSTON
BOY SCOUTS MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age" Special.) At a meeting of the Featherston Scout Committee the new cubmaster, Mr Lynch, was welcomed. Mr Lynch was formerly a Cubmaster in Australia. Mr P. Clark’s resignation was received with regret. Mr Harkness was appointed scoutmaster in his place. Mr H. Piper was appointed assistant scoutmaster. The report in connection with the Cubs stated: The roll of the Cub pack stands at ten. The average attendance is eight, but the last few weeks it has been reduced to five, owing to influenza. We hope, however, that it will regain its strength very soon. Two boys have passed their tenderfoot tests. There are two boys who will be going up into the troop this month, so they are working very hard to pass their morse code. We have to thank Mr Halpin very much for coming along to pack parade and instructing the boys in their knots, and other helpful assistance he has given us. We were able to hold a Pack parade up at the Domain. It was very well attended. The boys took a great interest in it and voiced the opinion that they would like to have all the meetings outside during the summer months. The Pack was requested to attend the Anzac service and a good number turned out. The. report was signed by Annie Fellingham, acting cubmaster. The renort of the Group Scoutmaster (Mr J. Halpin) read: I have to report that the Scoutmaster of the troop left Featherston early in May to take up his residence in Wanganui and in his absence I have taken charge at the troop parades. Since the last committee meeting three boys have left the troop and two have joined up, both the latter having had service with the Cub pack. The membership now stands at 22, made up as follows: Second-class scouts, 12; Tenderfeet, 8; Recruits, 2. The second-class boys have been making good progress towards the firstclass goal. The tenderfeet are also making good progress and several are very near to second-class standard. So far eight boys have paid their Jamboree deposit, and three more are expected to do so next parade night. There are 17 boys eligible to attend the Jamboree, and we hope that at least 15 will go in order to bring our contingent to half troop strength. It may be necessary to purchase one or two tents. One bell tent would be sufficient, and if a used army tent could be purchased it would be useful for ordinary camping purposes. There will be "various utensils needed as well as an assortment of other gear, the list of which will be supplied as soon as the Jamboree troop is formed. I wish to express my appreciation for the interest Mr Harkness and Mr Piper have taken in the troop, and the assistance they have given both to Mr Clark and myself on parade nights and at various outdoor activities. The troop funds show a credit balance of £4 0s Bd. QUERY CLUB MEMBERS AT CHURCH SERVICE. Members of the Query Club attended the service at St. John’s Church last evening. The lessons were read by Messrs F. Staples and H. Edwards, Query Club members. The Vicar (the Rev. J. T. Holland) gave a most interesting and inspiring sermon on ‘‘What Think Ye of Christ?.” GOLF CLUB MATCH WITH MARTINBOROUGH. The annual home-and-away match with Martinborough, held on Saturday, resulted in a draw, the results being as follows: —A team at Martinborough: Fourball: Martinborough 2, Featherston 1.
