METHODIST CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING OF CHOIR. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. There was a good representation of members and honorary members at the annual meeting and social of the Methodist Choir held at the Parsonage. The Rev. F. J. Parker was chairman. The meeting opened with prayer. Mr Parker called on those present to stand as a mark of respect to the memory of the late organist of the church. Miss A. M. Jones, L.A.B. The annual report referred to choir activities during the past year. Portions of Handel’s Messiah had been rendered at Christmas, the cantata "Daniell” in October, and special anthems at Easter. Several musical services had been arranged and the regular evening services of praise maintained. A record of long and faithful service had been established by the conductor, Mr S. H. Ralph, he having completed his fortylthird year as conductor of the church choir. The work of the junior choir and its leaders, the Misses Donald, was favourably commented on. Their record as a junior church choit was unsurpassed in the New Zealand Methodist Church. The loss to the church and choir of their organist, Miss A. M. Jones, was one that was felt very deeply. Her skill as an organist was well known, and no call for hei assistance as organist at extra services and practices was ever refused. She was always pleased to help. Several of the members left the town during the year. They were much missed, notably Mr and Mrs G. Milne. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, the Rev. F. J. Parker; conductor, Mr S. H. Ralph; deputy conductor, Mr W. Davies; secretary and treasurer, to be appointed; assistant secretary, Miss A. Birch; registrar. Miss M. Prout; librarian and committee, Miss Sanson, Mesdames Hensen and Scrivener and Miss O'Donnell; executive committee, the officers and Mrs A. J. Daysh. Miss D. Jamieson, Messrs Barns and Weston.

An enjoyable social hour was spen' at the close of the meeting. Two hymns were sung and a hearty vote of thanks to the host and hostess was passed.
