ATTITUDE TO BE STIFFENED IN EVENT OF BRITISH REPRISALS. DECLARATION BY TOKIO SPOKESMAN. TOKIO, June 15. Ihe Foreign Office spokesman said today that in the event of British retaliation over the Tient- » sin blockade the Japanese attitude would be stiffened, thereby increasing the gravity of the situation. The naval spokesman said the navy was not yet involved, but it was ready should the necessity arise. The newspaper “Hochi Shimbun” says: “Food should be prevented from entering the Concession, which should be taken over on behalf of the new China.” The “Asahi Shimbun” declares: "The world knows that England and Russia are plotting against Japan. The Tientsin issue is of minor importance.” The Domei News Agency claims that only 2000 of the normal 100,000 Chinese workers entered the Concession yesterday, and that loud speakers at the sentry posts tell the public of the necessity of suppressing Communist operations in the concessions.
