FIELD TRIALS

WAIRARAPA GUN CLUB’S EVENTS GOOD PERFORMANCES IN HARD CONDITIONS. MANY OUTSIDE COMPETITORS. Roough weather conditions were met with at the Wairarapa Gun Dog Club’s field trials which were held on Mr C. Trass’s property, Kopuaranga, yesterday. The entries were very good, particularly from members of the Hutt Valley Kennel Club, whose support assisted to make the trial a success. The conditions generally were very hard as in the land events the competing dogs were expected to enter punishing cover and in the water were expected to retrieve across a swollen river. This trial was much harder than usual as the current was very swift and carried the dogs some distance downstream. Nevertheless, all dogs retrieved their bird. . Notable performers on the day were Mr V. Wright’s Irish Setter Barry, and Mr R. W. Plunkett's Irish Setter Cumloden Sally, both of which, although young, put up very creditable performances. Mr E. C. Fowler judged all events, which were shot over by Messrs Robt Buick and H. K. Smith. Results are as follow: — Open land (12 entries): R. W. Plunkett’s Irish Setter Cumloden Sally, 68 points 1; Dr G. F. V. Anson’s Labrador Retriever Jill, 65 points 2; W. O. Wilton’s Irish Setter Daisy, 62 points 3. Open water (10 entries): M. A. Rawlin’s Labrador Retriever Cleopatra May, 78 points 1; W. O. Wilton’s Irish Setter Daisy, 72 points 2; W. Harding’s Labradoor Retriever Seafield Boss, 65 points 3. Novice land (10 entries): V. Wright's Irish Setter Barry, 70 points 1; J. C. Holmes’s Springer Spaniel Lyminster Binkie, 55 points 2; Dr G. V. Anson’s Labrador Retriever Toreador. 53 points 3. Consolation event: W. Harding’s Labrador Seafield Boss, 93 points 1; V. Wright’s Irish Setter Barry, 87 points 2; W. H. Trengrove’s Irish Setter Redstone Baza. 77 points 3.
