MINIATURE RIFLES

MATCH IN WELLINGTON WAIRARAPA DEFEATED Owing to sickness and other unforseen circumstances Wairarapa was not represented by its strongest combination at Wellington on Saturday night. Consequently it suffered defeat by a large margin from a very formidable'team. Shooting commenced at 8 o’clock and was concluded at 9.30 When the visitors were entertained at supper. The president. Mrs A. V. Wilson, welcomed the visitors and said how pleased she was to do so. It was not the win in these contests that counted but the spirit of comradeship that existed which she hoped would long continue. Mr W. Johnson, president of the Wairarapa Association,- thanked Mrs Wilson for her warm welcome and congratulated the city team upon its excellent shooting which averaged 97.14 against Wairarapa's 94.11. He called upon the captain of the Wairarapa team, Mr H. K. Smith to present the cup to the captain of the Wellington team,. Mr L. S. Hare, which he did. He congratulated Wellington upon their excellent shooting. After asking Mr Hare to accept the cup he called upon Wairarapa to give three cheers for the victors. Mr C. J. DeLacey (secretary of Wairarapa Association) added his congratulations. As one of the selectors he made no excuses for the Wairarapa shooters, but unfortunately the visitors were not represented by their best team. The return match in Wairarapa would, he felt sure, be a close contest. The following were the scores:— Wellington:—R. V. Abbott 100. L. M Rush. l/S. Hare, E. L. Cooze, G. Henesy, P. C. Coote 99, R.
