MR & MRS H. A. EVANS

/ FAREWELLED BY SETTLERS. GATHERING AT KOPUARANGA. (“Times-Age.” Special.) On Thursday evening the settlers of Kopuaranga gathered in the hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs H. A. Evans, who are shortly leaving the district. The gathering took the form of a dance. A recitation by Mrs R. Miller was heartily applauded. After supper, Mr C. C: Jackson, on behalf of the residents, spoke of the splendid way in which both Mr and Mrs Evans had helped with all the activities in the district during the fourteen years they had lived in Kopuaranga. He then asked them to accept a silver tea service as a mark of esteem from the residents. Mr Evans had been secretary of the Hall Trustees for a nuipber of years, and. had spared no effort to place-the hall finances on a sound footing. In paying tribute to Mr Evans’s splendid work in connection with the hall, Mr Jackson asked him to accept a silver pencil from the settlers. Mr C. P. Jarrett, on behalf of the Tennis Club, said that they regretted that the club was to lose two such active members, and asked Mr and Mrs Evans to accept small gifts from their tennis friends. Eric Kenny presented Master Peter Evans with a book from his Kopuaranga friends. Mr and Mrs Evans and Peter were accorded musical honours. Mr Evans and Peter suitably replied. Dancing was continued until a late hour. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem brought a very jolly gathering to a close.
