PAPAWAI PA RENOVATION PROPOSALS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The committee- controlling the renovation proposals at the Papawai Maori Pa has decided upon a scheme that will cost about £4OO. The existing meeting house, which is in comparative!}' good order, is to be removed to a more central site. A concrete foundation is to be provided, and at a meeting of the committee on Sunday it was decided to give the Natives, as well as Europeans of the district, an opportunity of contributing towards the cost of the materials necessary for the concrete. It was stated that thirty bags of cement would be needed, and Messrs. Ben Roberts and J. Robertson, M.’sP., who are members of the committee, started the ball rolling by each donating one bag of cement. This lead was followed by other members of the committee and before the list closed for the afternoon it was found that 21 of the 30 bags had been donated. Applause greeted the announcement, and the list was left open for other sympathisers to contribute the cost of one or more bags of cement to make the full complement. In discussing the metal needed for the concrete. Mr. Ben Roberts expressed the opinion that if a lorry could be borrowed, men with leisure hours cn Saturday morning would volunteer to load the metal. The purpose, he said, of leisure hours was for mutual help and co-operation in community efforts. PLUNKET SOCIETY The monthly meeting of the Greytown branch of the Plunket Society was held on Monday evening, there being present, Mesdames Vile (in the chair), Morton. Maddison, Keirnan. Bayliss, Haigh, Fuller. Everett. Stevens, Gregor, Burns, Nisbet, Nichols, and the honorary secretary (Mrs. F. C. Bunny). It was decided to hold the meetings at 7.30 o'clock during the winter months. A bonus of £2 2s was voted to Miss E. Gregor for her past services as secretary.
