CARTERTON

SCHOOL COMMITTEE DONATION FROM OLD PUPILS’ ASSOCIATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The chairman, Mr H. J. McKenzie, presided at the monthly meeting of the Carterton District High School Committee on Tuesday evening. Advice was received from the Education Board that Mr Leete would continue in the position of actingheadmaster until the arrival of Mr Martin, of Wellington, who would take up his duties on July 1. The janitor of the. Holloway Street school tendered her resignation, to take effect on June 30. The matter of appointing some one to fillthe position was left in the hands of the chairman and the treasurer. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £9l 18s Id. Accounts amounting to £46 17s 5d were passed. The headmaster reported a roll of 379 in the primary school and 51 in the secondary department. Four footballs had been received from the Wairarapa Rugby . Union, and two basketballs had been procured for the senior girls. It is hoped to procure two smaller balls for the junior girls at an early date. Mr Sexton, whose property adjoins the schoolground at the old wooden building, has granted the use of his paddock as a playground for the children. The generous offer is very much appreciated by the committee and staff. It was decided to apply to the Education Board for two asphalt basketball grounds for the Holloway Street school. Mr Leete was granted the use of the south school for the Boys’ Club during the winter months. Some time ago the Old Pupils’ Associated decided to disband. They had in hand a credit balance of £l2, and'this sum they have donated to the school. A committee, comprising Messrs Wakelin, Knutson and McKenzie has been set up to decide how the money should be used.

Acting upon medical advice he will go to the seaside to recuperate.
