HOLLYWOOD STARS
ARE RADIO FAVOURITES. In a recent poll conducted in New York .for the most popular radio programmes, Hollywood stars achieved outst.'iiding success. Jack Benny is the favourite comedian, followed by Charlie McCarthy, Burns and Allen, Robert Benchley, Fanny Brice, Frank Morgan, Bob Burns, and Eddie Cantor. The most popular male singer is Bing Crosby, with Kenny Baker, Frank Parker, Lanny Ross, Nelson Eddy. Jerry Cooper, and Rudy Vallee in descending order. Women singers were led in popularity by Frances Langford (Mrs Jon Hall), Kate Smith, Connie Boswell, Jane Froman, Dorothy Lamour, while Maxine Sullivan, who made her film debut in “St. Louis Blues,” tied with Bea Wain. The most popular new star' of the year is Orson "Welles, and third on the list is Bob Hope, who helped to make “Thanks for the Memory” so famous. Of the classical singers, Nelson Eddy, j Lawrence Tibbett, Richard Crooks, 1 Lily Pons, and Kirsten Flagstad——are the favourites.
