Discussing his first impressions of New Zealand and Australia during a round trip by the Mariposa. Mr H. E. Downing, comptroller of the Times Mirror Publishing Company, of Los Angeles, when interviewed recently, expressed amazement at the size and type of the cities. "Sydney is like San Francigco in many respects,” he said. "The bustle and handling of crowds and traffic was typically American. Again, in a small way, Auckland reminds me of San Francisco, mainly because of the people’s activity. I found Melbourne a beautifully staid city, possessing enviable parks.”
