FEATHERSTON

EUCHRE TOURNAMENT WINNERS AT PIHAUTEA. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the euchre tournament held in the Pihautea Hall, Mrs L. Smith won the ladies’ first prize, Mrs Parker, being second. Mr. S. Nicholasen won the first prize among the men, Mr. L. Bridgewater being second. The music for tne dance, which followed the cards, was supplied by Mrs. Connell arid Mrs. Sadler. SUCCESSFUL CONCERT HELD IN KAHUTARA HALL. A very successful concert, was held in Kahutara Hall in aid of the Green Queen candidate, when there was a record attendance. Items were given by Mesdames Arch Clark, Cole, Houstan, Miss Harvey, Mr., H. Graham, the Drama Circle, Pirinoa and Pukio Maori children and Kahutara School children.

RACING CLUB x MEETING OF STEWARDS. At the monthly meeting of the.stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club there were present: Messrs. J. W. Card (chairman), D. H. S. Riddiford, T. Benton, Roy Donald, C. J. Nix, R. A. Donald, J. G. Donald, R. N. Barton, H. Lawson, J. F. Thompson, and the secretary, Mr. N. C. C. Shepherd. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. A. C. Peace, W. Howard Booth and E. B. Martin. Receipts since last meeting totalled £7B 9s 7d, and accounts passed for payment, £37 18s Bd. Applications for trainers’ licenses from W. Galbraith and H. P. Reed were recommended. The secretary of the Wairarapa Raccourse Trustees vzrote advising that the Trustees had decided to make a grant of £lOO towards the Wairarapa Cup of 1939-40. It was resolved to thank the Trustees for the grant and to leave the allocation of same to the Programme Committee. The chairman reported that the Buildings Committee had met at the course and as a result presented plans and specifications to provide additional grandstand accommodation. The matter was very fully discussed, and it was finally resolved that a special meeting of stewards be held at the racecourse on Thursday, June 15, at 2 p.m. to go further into the matter. Personal Items. Mrs. Clapshaw is spending the weekend in Wellington. Mrs. J. A. Juno, Pihautea, is paying a short visit to Wellington.
