POTATO EMBARGO
REMAINING IN FORCE IN AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCEMENT BY FEDERAL PREMIER. CITRUS FRUIT GROWERS TO BE HEARD. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. CANBERRA, June 1. The Federal government today decided not to renew permission for the importation of New Zealand potatoes. The Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, told the House of Representatives that he is informing Mr Savage of the continuation of the embargo pending an investigation of the position by the local Potato Advisory Committee with a view to stabilisation of the potato industry. In 'the meantime, citrus fruit growers, who are continually complaining of the New Zealand embargo on the export of their fruit, would be given an opportunity of putting their case, after which the Commonwealth Government would come to a final decision on the potato embargo, Mr Menzies said.
