TERRITORIAL UNITS

DRAFTING OF RETURNED MEN OPPOSED. MASTERTON DEFENCE LEAGUE’S VIEW. A proposal that returned soldiers should be drafted into Territorial units to bring them up to the required strength was unanimously opposed by the committee of the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Defence League at a meeting held last night. This decision was made in view of the fact that there were plenty of younger men who were eligible to join up and it was considered these men should recognise their responsibilities and come forward. Messrs. G. R. Booth and S. Fletcher were appointed delegates to attend a Dominion conference of the league to be held in Wellington on June 7.
