QUEEN CARNIVAL ENJOYABLE EuLhRE PARTY. -— ("Times-Age” Special.) The euchre party which was held al the home of Mrs. D. M. Jeffrey on Monday night in the interests of the Blue Queen (Miss A. Fellington) was well attended. The prize-winners were: Ladies: Mrs. W. Card 1, Mrs. Me Kenna 2; men, Mrs. O’Neale 1, Mr Alex McLeod 2.' The winners of the lucky numbers were Mrs. Tutbury and Mr. Hoby. The wine donated by Mrs. Lambess, was won by Mrs. W. J. Jeffrey, senr.; the pansy plants, donated by Mrs Rea, by Mrs Charles; and the mystery parcel (donated by Mr. Perry) by Mr Fellingham.

LIBRARY COMMITTEE NEW BOOKS TO BE PURCHASED. At a meeting of the Library Com • mittee there were present: Mr. R. Matthews (chairman), Mesdames J. G. McKenzie, N. C. C. Shepherd, R. A. Donald, Misses H. Card, Jean Donald. Revs J. T. Holland, R. S. Keenan, Messrs. M.’B. Tait, C. C. Kenward Arch Clark and N. C. C. Shepherd (secretary). . It was resolved to let out periodicals at Id per issue. It was resolved to recommend to the Borough Council that the sum of £4OO out of the Bidwill bequest of £5OO be put on fixed deposit for 12 months, and that the sum of £5O be made available immediately for the purchase of books. This sum to spread over an extended period. A heartv vote of thanks was passed to Mr. M. B. Tait for the installation of an electric light point in the' library porch. It was resolved that the local committee meet the Country Library van and make the usual selection of books. It was resolved that from June 1 the lending room be closed on the Monday of each week. The following ife the librarian’s report:—Since my last report the inside alterations to the library have been completed, and the lending department reopened on February 1. The new system is now in operation, and although there is more- detail the check on the books is most satisfactory. The tax on the books is considerable, as the membership has increased from 75 to 180. Of these, 27 are country members, and pay the usual annual subscription. Mr Mitchell arrived with the van on March 31 to change the books on loan from the Country Lending Library. Owing to the number of members these are quite inadequate to cope with the demand. Two books for the reference department have been presented with the compliments of the Christian Science Society. A number of monthly periodicals and papers are arranged for by the Country Library Service. These have to be forwarded to various other libraries, on the last day of each month in accordance with a list submitted. The Rest Room Committee also met. It was resolved that the Rev. R. S. Keenan and Mr. N. C. C. Shepherd (secretary) meet the Borough Council’s representatives to discuss the future control of the Rest Room.

KING’S BIRTHDAY POST OFFICE ARRANGEMENTS. On the King’s Birthday (June 5) the Featherston Post and Telegraph Oflice will be closed in all branches with the exception of the telephone exchange, which will remain open continuously as usual. Mails for despatch will close at 7.30 a.m. Street receivers will be cleared at 7 a.m. On the evening of Saturday, June 3, a delivery of correspondence (including registered) will be made over the counter between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Featherston-Tauherenikau and Whangaimoana rural deliveries will be suspended for the day.
