PONGAROA

FOOTBALL MATCHES. LOCAL GAMES DRAWN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The first matches of the second round were played on Saturday, both games being drawn. Playing on their home ground Tiraumea drew with Pukehinau 3 all, a penalty goal to a try. Tiraumea showed a marked improvement on their previous match with the leading team. On the local Domain, Pongaroa drew with Coast, 8 all. Pongaroa were leading 8 to nil at half-time, but were unable to hold their advantage. A feature of the game was a brilliant try scored for Pongaroa by J. McLaren. Personal Items. Mr S. F. Herbert is visiting Gisborne where he will compete in the North Island Championship Dog Trials. ( Mr and Mrs A. P. Campbell were recent visitors to Wellington. Mrs H. McDonald, Sanson, is the guest of her parents, Mr and Mr§ J. Reid. Golf Competitions. A match between the President’s team and the Captain’s team was played during the weekend and resulted in a win for the latter by 5 games to 3. The following are the results, the President’s team being mentioned first:— Theed beat McGregor, 2 and 1; F. Meech lost to Donovan 3 and 2; B. Robertson lost to Eunson, 8 and 6; Satherly beat -Scott, 3 and 2; Reid lost to Wilks, 1 down; J. Meech beat Pickett, 3 and 1; Mrs Theed lost to Mrs Scott. 5 and 4; Mrs Eunson lost to Mrs Sathcrly, 4 and 3. Hole in One. During the day’s play a brilliant hole in one was registered at the 9th (Campbell’s Quarry), 75 yards, by Mrs Eunson. During the eight years of the club's existence this'is the first time that this particular hole has been done in one, and also the first time that a lady member has accomplished the feat. The club honoured the event in the customary manner.
