COURSING
WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING. TWO EVENTS TO BE DECIDED ON SATURDAY. The Wairarapa Coursing Club will open the season's activities on Saturday next,'June 3. at the Akura Plumpton. The events to be decided are an Open Stake for the Archer Cup and a Puppy Stake for the Bradbury Trophy. As this meeting will be a local one. added interest will be taken in the new dogs which will be seen on action. The district is fortunate in that a particularly fine lot of puppies are about this year. The Open Stake should bring forth a select field of experienced coursers. New Zealand's champion, The Clipper, is in rare order and will endeavour to improve on his great record of last season. Golden King is a worthy opponent for any in the Stake, while Great Worry has possibilities and may prove to be the surprise of the afternoon. The hares are in fine fettle through a thorough schooling and are expected to run strongly. The bulk of the hares in the enclosure were carried oyer from last season and are fully acquainted with the ground and escapes. Nominations close on Wednesday at 3 p.m.. with the secretary. The draw will take place at the Y.M.C.A. on Thursday evening. Prior to this the executive will meet and appoint the officials for Saturday. Greyhound owners wil be interested to know that the recently formed Hastings Coursing Club has been entrusted with the blue riband of coursing in New Zealand, the 1939 Waterloo Cup, which will be run at Longlands.
