At the annual meeting of the Pahiatua County Council, Cr A. W. Bissett was unanimously re-elected chairman.

The Empire Parliamentary Association tendered a luncheon to Mr and Mrs F. Langstone, a London cablegram states.

A cordial welcome was extended to ■Mr L. T. Daniell, who has replaced Mr E. J. Wright on the Wairarapa College board of governors, at the board’s monthly meeting last night. Colonel H. E. Avery, C.M.G., D. 5.0., Wellington, has been appointed a member of the National War Funds Council. He replapes the late Colonel G. Mitchell.

Mr W. R. . Nicol was re-elected chairman of the Wairarapa College board of governors at the annual meeting last night. Mr F. C. Daniell was elected as deputy-chairman of the board.

Sergeant G. F. Bonisch, cf the Pahiatua Police Force, has been transferred to Greymouth, with promotion to the rank of Senior-Sergeant. His place will be taken by Sergeant, Whiting, of Wanganui. The Minister of Defence and the Postmaster-General, Mr Jones, arrived at Auckland from Hamilton yesterday. He received a number of callers and inspected the Tasman Airway terminal in Mechanics Bay. Mr Jones will meet representatives of air raid precautions organisations today, and he may visit the naval base, Devonport, before leaving for Wellington by train tonight.

Appreciation of the work done for the Wairarapa College by Mr E. J. Wright who, owing to ill health has resigned from the board of governors, was expressed by the chairman Mr W. R. Nicol at the board meeting last night. Mr Wright had always taken a keen interest in the welfare of i the school and he would be sadly missed, said the chairman. It was decided to place on record the board’s appreciation of the work Mr Wright had carried out while a member of the board.
