A PARCEL EVENING

J GATHERING AT DALEFIELD. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Dalefield Town Hall was filled to capacity last evening when the Dalefield Hockey Club tendered a dance and parcel evening to Miss Edna McLean and Mr J. Todd in honour of their approaching marriage. Visitors were present from all over the district, and-the popularity of the two young people was manifest throughout the. evening. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion. Dancing was kept going merrily to music supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton and Mr G. Udy, the M.C. being Mr V. Ashton. Extras were played by Miss Mary Herrick and altogether the gathering was a very enjoyable one. At a suitable break in proceedings, Mr Robert Bassett, speaking on behalf of the settlers of Dalefield, referred to the excellent personal qualities of the guests and of their parents who had resided in the district for many years. The young folk had practically .grown up with the district and on behalf of the settlers he extended the best wishes of those present. Mr E. Heyden, on behalf of the Hockey Club and its supporters, paid a tribute to the guests who had always taken a keen interest in hockey, and, in fact, anything that was undertaken for the welfare of the district. He asked them both to accept on behalf of the hockey players a beautiful travelling rug, and wished them every happiness and prosperity in the future. Mr Bassett then asked Miss McLean to accept and open the large number, of parcels which had been received. This being done Mr J. Todd thanked those present for their kindness and “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung- lustily. Dancing was again proceeded with till the early hours of this morning. During the evening several novelty dances were held. Supper on a very lavish scale was provided and one of the happiest functions held in the Dalefield Hall for some time was recorded.
