PLUNKET SOCIETY

DOMINION PRESIDENTS VISIT TO MASTERTON.

Speaking at the welcome extended yesterday to Mrs James Begg, Dominion president" of the Plunket Society, on the occasion of her visit to the Masterton Plunket Rooms, Mrs J. Caselberg, president of the Masterton branch, said she was sure Mrs Begg realised how helpful it was to the committee to meet her personally. Although the executive and council work at Dunedin was well known, it was difficult to gauge the amount of time and thought devoted by them to Plunket work. One of the many examples in that respect was the well-planned preparation made at Dunedin for assisting the branches in launching the Sir Truby King memorial appeal. Mrs Begg, in the course of her reply, said that Dr. Helen Deem, the newlyappointed medical adviser to the council, was giving special study to .the necessity for increasing care in regard to the pre-school child. In spite of the disadvantage of working under inadequate accommodation in Dunedin for many years past, both at the training hospital and at the Plunket rooms, the work was progressing rapidly. A new Karitane Hospital and Plunket rooms were nearing completion. Apologies for absence were received at yesterday’s gathering from the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, Lady Perry, Mesdames T. W. Wardell, W. McKenzie, Wells and Trapp (Carterton).
