TRANSPORT LICENSING
SITTING OF NO 2 AUTHORITY. NEED FOR ORGANISATION. “I consider that in this district and probably throughout the whole of New Zealand there are more than sufficient transport facilities offering,' stated Mr P. Skoglund, No 2 Transport Licensing Authority, at a sitting in Masterton today. “All that is needed,” he added, “is a proper, organisation of the transport available, and if that were done, it would be possible to cut down the number of lorries operating.” At a later stage Mr Skoglund said: “I do not want you to think that meetings of carriers settle these applications. I am the one that does that.” J. W. Thornton, June., Masterton, was granted a rental car licence, and was also granted an amendment to his good service licence. A transfer of a goods licence from E. Cavanagh to R. J. Nilsson, Eketahuna,, was granted for the cartage of timber only.
An application by E. ■ Goss, Newman, for a general goods service licence was refused, but he was granted a licence to • carry firewood. Referring to carriers being able to operate in certain areas only, Mr Skoglund said: “If I had my way there would be no restrictions and carriers would be able to operate throughout the whole of the No. 2 Licensing District.” \
