“PIECE OF IMPERTINENCE”
PROPOSED PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS. OBSERVATIONS BY MAYOR. A letter was received at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council from the Central School Committee asking that favourable consideration be given to the question of a pedestrian crossing in Queen Street between the school and the service station.
The Works and Finance Committee recommended that no action be taken, there being no reason why the council should alter its previous decision with .regard to pedestrian crossings. “The application, I believe,’’ stated the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, “arose out of the remarks of a Mr Stringer. Personally I regard it as a piece! of impertinence for him to come here and tell us what we should have, and not have here. We have competent inspectors who know what is required. The committee saw no reason to reverse its decision.” Councillor R. Russell said he would like to see something done. If it saved one child’s life it would be well worth while. The recommendation was adopted.
