ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL

FRESHNESS AND SIMPLICITY. FOR GIRL STILL IN TEENS. When a girl has passed her sixteenth birthday she may be said to have entered the ranks of beautyseekers. Parents, perhaps, think that she is too young to think of beauty, but the girl of sixteen has reached the stage where she begins to seek outside aid to enhance her natural charms, and at seventeen and eighteen she has either learnt the correct, methods of skin care, or she has started on . the road which will end with a ruined skin. Young complexions are very important. and must be treated as such. What you do to your skin now will either make it or mar it. Therefore, first and foremost will be the matter of skin care, and the first essential of this important matter is learning how to keep your face clean. Of course, you may skip this, thinking that you have been doing this since your nursery days, but that was not in the same way as you will now care for it. When you wash your face you will first rinse it with warm water, then you will wash it with a good, pure soap, and again rinse with warm water. This is very important, as all the soap must be removed from the skin, and finally the face is splashed with cold water so that the open pores are closed. Now that you are growing older you can start and use face creams. No' parent will object to you keeping your Skin soft with a good cold cream nor to an occasional cleansing , with a good cleansing cream. At this age you will most likely encounter the problem of the teens. Pimples, lumps, and blackheads. To combat these blemishes you will keep the skin clean outside, as explained above, and you will keep your skin clean from inside by carefully studying your diet. Sweets, cream cakes, rich pastries, must all be looked at askance, whilst at least six glasses of water should be drunk daily. Those bumps which appear under your skin should never be squeezed out under pressure. By doing so, some of the pus is forced back into, the glands, with the added possibility of more lumps and pimples thus being created. Instead of using pressure, secure two small pads of dip them in hot milk, and then gently manipulate them all around* the lump until the secretion is softened and will work out of the skin under the lightest of pressure.

Beginnings. And then there is your make-Up—-and this is a burning question. You will have your ideas, your parents will have theirs, and if you are attending school you will discover that the teachers also have their ideas on the subject. Therefore, a compromise is best.

If you are sweet sixteen you are still too young to use rouge and lipstick, but you can begin training your eyebrows and lashes. If they are rather thin paint them each night with a small camelhair brush dipped in olive oik This will encourage their growth. Of course, if you have straight hair, there is nothing to stop you have a permanent wave, but please do be sure that it is a good one, even if it costs more, as it is so easy to harm and destroy the beauty of your hair.

Growing Up. When sweet sixteen turns into sophisticated seventeen, and starts to go to business or finishing school, she will automatically start to use cosmetics. And, no matter what we may say, nor how beautiful she may be, she will either openly or surreptitiously use make-up aids. Therefore it is best to allow her to use cosmetics, providing they are the right type and of excellent manufacture.

Skin creams should be light, foamy, and daintily perfumed,' and should be spread over the face with light upwards movements. No ■ attempt at massage should ,be undertaken, as young skins do not require these treatments.

Astringents are not necessary, but if

the skin is greasy it can be bathed each night with milk. The milk can be allowed to dry on the skin and allowed to remain on until morning. Air-floated powder, which tones with the skin, can be used, and should be lightly dusted on with a swansdown puff. . . Rouge and lipstick can be used. Both should be of a light shade, and cream rouges and greasy lipsticks should be avoided.

The brows should not be plucked, but should be trained by brushing them each night with a small brow brush. Train them to grow ;jn the manner desired, and in later life you will find that the tweezers will not be needed nearly as much as if the brows were allowed to grow unruly. And now is the tirrfe to go back to nature for your future beauty. Eat raw carrots and you will always have a flawless skin. Eat plenty of oranges and pimples will not worry you. In fact, at every opportunity eat as much fresh fruit as is possible. And finally remember that whilst you are in your teens you do not need to improve on nature. As you become older you will spend your life trying to recapture the beauty of the years which are at present yours, so whilst you still have it cultivate the dewy freshness which belongs to your present age.
