WAIRARAPA UNION IMEETING OF THE COMMITTEE THE 2-3-2 SCRUM FAVOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union held at Carterton on Thursday night donations were received with thanks from Mr G. D. Wilson £1 Is, Mr M. Parker £1 Is, and Mr and Mrs Gilman £3 3s. The secretary, Opaki Club, wrote asking the committee to reconsider its decision against regrading B. Henderson from senior to junior. The letter stated that the club was experiencing great difficulty in fielding a team. Members of the Union considered that they could not reverse their former decision, and the letter was received. The secretary, Opaki Club, also wrote for a ruling on the position of an Opaki player who is now employed in the Bush District, although he returns to his home in the Wairarapa each weekend. It was decided to inform the club that the player was eligible to play for the Opaki Club. A Carterton player, injured in the match with Old Boys on Saturday, asked for some monetary consideration in view of the fact that medical expenses amounting to £2 2s had been incurred. He is to be asked to furnish a doctor’s certificate and the usual claim form, when the matter will be considered. The following transfers were granted, subject in some cases to clearances being provided: —T. Orr, from CarterTon to Gladstone; E. Chisnail, Masterton to Opaki; J. Herrick, Carterton to Dalefield; A. Mahupuka, Martinborough to Wairarapa College; H. Ewington, Red Star to Masterton; B. 'McWhinnie, Masterton to Old Boys; M. Braggins, Greytown to Masterton; H. W. Jones, Masterton to Red Star; W. Stowell, Masterton, were regraded from senior to junior. The application of J. R. Gardiner, Featherston, for re-instatement to Rugby from League was recommended to the New Zealand Rugby Union for favourable consideration. A Carterton senior player ordered off during the Carterton-Old Boys match on Saturday was cautioned. A Red Star third grade player was stood down for three playing Saturdays for using foul language and abusing the referee after the game. Remits to conference were considered, and it was decided to support the 2-3-2 scrum formation, and also the referee putting the ball in the scrum. A remit suggesting that a penalty goal should count two points and a field goal three was not favoured, although it was decided to support the idea that a field goal should count three points. The takings from Saturday’s games amounted to £l9 12s 6d, and from the seven-a-side tourney £6 19s 6d. It was decided to charge 6d admission to all junior games.
