WRITING COMPETITION

BRITISH AND COLONIAL INDUSTRIES. WAIRARAPA PRIZE-WINNERS. The report of the adjudicator in the-' British and Colonia] Industries writing competition, open to the pupils of Wairarapa schools, states: — "Some of the specimens of handwriting from the Wairarapa schools were almost perfect, and the writing from the three Catholic schools was the best I have examined for many years. 1 have given instructions for a number, of special prizes to be issued which will bring up to total nearly 100 orders. Over twenty schools have secured these and I should like to congratulate the following on their success: Central, St. Patrick’s. West. Lansdowne, Carterton District High School, St. Mary's, Mauriceville East. Mauriceville West, Ponatahi, Gladstone. Parkvale, Clareville. Opaki. Poro Poro, Fernridge. Longbush. Matahiwi. Awatoitoi and Mangapakeha. Over 6,000 papers had to be examined. I wish to thank Messrs C. Smith Ltd., Messrs C. E. Daniell Ltd., Messrs Rew and McCracken, Messrs Kemp Goodin. Messrs Wallis Bakery, Messrs Fleming and Co., Ltd., the Carterton Furnishing Co., and Messrs T. J. Edmonds Ltd., for their very generous gifts which helped so materially to make this competition the most successful one ever held in the district. Messrs Kerslake’s prize was won by Ngaire Clarke of the Matahiwi School.
