AUSTRALIA’S TRADE LOSS EFFECT OF NEW ZEALAND RESTRICTIONS. DELEGATION PROPOSAL ■ DROPPED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. CANBERRA, May 8. The Commonwealth Government, having fully considered the recent curtailment of Australian imports by New Zealand which will mean a further loss of trade amounting to £1.500.000, has decided against sending a Ministerial delegation to the Dominion to discuss the trade position. It is felt Here that the latest restrictions apply mainly to luxury and semiluxury items and the right of New Zealand to economise on luxury imports to satisfy her serious internal position is fully appreciated in Canberra official quarters. GOODS IN DEMAND INQUIRIES BY EASTERN FIRMS. LOSS OF EUROPEAN SUPPLIES FEARED. , SYDNEY, May 8. Fearing that in the event of war they might be cut off from supplies from Europe, Eastern firms are inquiring for Australian manufactures. This was revealed by Mr F. R. Vanesveld, a representative of Australian exporters, who arrived here today from the East Indies. He brought back typed lists covering 400 articles which are wanted, provided the prices are competitive. Mr Vanesveld said that trade in the East was dull, due mainly to the war in China and to a lesser extent to the threats of war in Europe. Rubber and tin prices were also rather low.
