MILITARY PACT
BETWEEN JAPAN AND AXIS POWERS NOT AN IMPOSSIBILITY. ACCORDING TO WAR MINISTRY. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. TOKIO, May 8. The War Ministry, General liagaki, said today that it was a matter for congratulation that Italy and Germany were now linked up in a military pact to maintain peace. It was not impossible that Japan might conclude a military agreement with the Axis Powers if Italy and Germany wanted it. He added that the moral spirit of the antiComintern Pact was very. deep-root-ed. The Minister of Overseas Affairs, General Kiiso, said that he understood that negotiations were going in for the conclusion of a three-Power military agreement. The Foreign Office spokesman, however, was unable to state whether Japan had been even invited to join an alliance, but her policy of strengthening the anti-Comintern Pact was unchanged. After causing casualties estimated at 8000 and 9000 in Chungking in three days’ bombing raids, the Japanese announce that they will not relax the raids till the city is evacuated.
