Representations to the Minister for Marine (the Hon P. Fraser) that a close season of two years be observed for the taking of toheroas, in an endeavour to prevent the complete depletion of the beds on the west coast near Dargaville, were decided upon at a special meeting of the Toheroa Advisory Committee. The committee also approved a suggestion that the quantity allowed should be reduced from 50 to 25 a person. It was decided to suggest to the Minister that the punishment for breaches of the regulations during the period should include confiscation of the vehicles in which the toheroas were found, as in the oyster regulations.
