TRAMPING CLUB

VISIT TO MOUNT REEVES. FINE VIEW OF DISTRICT. Under the capable leadership' of Miss V. McKenzie several members- of the Wairarapa Tramping Club had a most enjoyable tramp yesterday. Leaving Woodside station shortly after 9 a.m. the road to Wall’s Whare was followed for three or four miles. After reaching the river-bed lunch was enjoyed and then all set out for the summit of Mount Reeves, 2,949 feet. The climb took 21 hours. The view from this peak was exceptionally fine. Masterton, Carterton, Gladstone, Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough could all be seen. A two hours' tramp found the party 'at Wall’s Whare just as darkness set in. After having tea in the whare, a return was made to Woodside in time to catch the rail-car for Masterton. Next weekend the official opening of the new hut at the Mount Holdsworth ski grounds will take place. Trampers are coming from several of the Wellington, Palmerston North and Hastings clubs, as well as local enthusiasts. There will be a day trip for those unable to go for the weekend and those intending to make the day trip are asked to advise Miss McKenzie, c/o W. wool department before Thursday so that adequate transport can be arranged.
