GREYTOWN

ST. LUKE’S GUILD. NEW SECRETARY APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the special meeting of the members of St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs C. S. Shed'den was elected secretary in place of Mrs E. Graham, who has left the district. Mrs W. Everett was appointed to act with Mrs Shedden for a few months. The treasurer was authorised to pay over £l5O to St. Luke’s vestry towards the reduction of the mortgage on the vicarage. TRUST LANDS TRUST. MR CARTER ELECTED CHAIRMAN. The monthly meeting of the Trustees was held on Thursday night. The secretary (Mr B. Kiernan) announced the result of the nomination for office and declared Messrs J. Barnard, H. G. Carter and F. Dennes elected members of the Trust. The election of chairman was then taken, Mr Dennes proposed and Mr H. J. Nightingale seconded that Mr Carter be re-elected chairman. The motion was carried. Mr Carter thanked the trustees for their continued confidence. He stated, however, that he felt that the chairmanship should go round, and intimated that he would take the position again on that understanding. The chairman welcomed Mr J. W. Barnard, who had been elected to the extraordinary vacancy. It was decided to agree to the proposed fence between the Trust sections and the new Government houses. Leave of absence was granted to Mr H. Walden. District High School Party. The pupils of the Greytown District High School held a successful breakingup party on Thursday night. The function was held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall which was decorated with streamers in the school colours. Games, competitions, and dancing were thoroughly enjoyed by the large number of people present. At the close of the gathering, the, chairman of the School Committee thanked the pupils for the very pleasant evening which had been provided. Mr C. S. Shedden (headmaster) also expressed the thanks of the staff for the invitation to be present, and for the very enjoyable evening they had. The singing of the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne brought the party to a close. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs W. Hutchings, of Battersea, have left for Rotorua and Auckland. Mr and Mrs Eric Skeet left today for North Auckland. Mr L. McLean, of Opunake, is on a visit to Greytown. Mrs C. Mexted, of Tawa Flat, is spending the weekend at Greytown, whilst her husband is at the lake duck shooting.
