Spear Chief won the Brisbane Cup today for the second time in the Australasian record time of 3.19:;. Placings were: Spear Chief, 9.7 (McCarten), 1; Six Fifty, 72 (Beresford), 2; L’Aiglon, 8.12 (Lappin), 3. Thirteen started. Spear Chief was a fair way back in the early part of the race, but won going away by three lengths, with two lengths between second and third. The time, 3.19?, beats Wotan's record of 3.21.’ in the Melbourne Cup in 1936.
