MASTERTON GUN CLUB

CLAY BIRD SHOOTING. COMPETITION WON BY C. E. GREY. The Masterton Gun Club had a very successful opening clay bird shoot on Saturday, a large number of members and friends being present, including several from Carterton and Featherston. Mr R. J. King (president), in opening the season, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors.

Mr E. A. Nutt, a keen follower of the sport, has donated a handsome silver cup for competition amongst the Wairarapa clubs for the best first barrel aggregate throughout the season.

The shooting on the day was only fair, a rather gusty wind having a tendency to “sky” the birds. In the first competition (21 birds) Messrs C. E. Grey and Jim McKenzie shot 20 birds each, McKenzie shooting 19 with the first barrel and Grey 18. In the shoot-off Grey was the winner. The following were the leading scores: —C. E. Grey (16), 20; Jim McKenzie (15), 20; R. J. King (14), 19; J. Udv (14), 18; D. McKenzie (16), 18; K. McLachlan (13), 18; F. Allen (11), 17; A. Macalister (11), 17; D. McLachlan (16), 17. Ten others competed. Yankee shoot (10 birds): D. McKenzie, Jim McKenzie and R. Williams shot 9 each and divided the sweep. Double rise (5 pair): J. Gallagher and D. McKenzie shot 9 each and divided.
