TARARUA RIFLE CLUB. THOMASEN CUP COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Tararua Rifle Club’s third and final shoot for the Thomasen Cup was won by Rifleman C. Sigvertsen with a score of 279 over the three shoots. W. Manser was runner-up with 278. The
Personal. Mr J. Neilsen has sold his prqperty at Newman Road to Mr H. Moar, of Ashhurst. HAMUA GOLF CLUB. SEASON OPENED. The Hamua Golf Club officially opened the season for play during the weekend. The weather, although threatening, kept fine and members and visitors had a very enjoyable day’s outing. Mr Carruthers, in declaring the course open, thanked the members oi the club for the way they had worked in preparing the course and said he hoped that more members would turn out to the next working bee. He extended a hearty welcome to the visitors and hoped everybody would have a good game. The course, as usual, was in good order and the greens were putting well. After a little more rain to soften them and rolling they will be in excellent order. The competition for the day, a Canadian foursome, was won by C. ,Holdaway and Mrs W. Darley. MAKOMAKO GOLF CLUB. IDEAL PLAYING CONDITIONS. The golf club held its opening in ideal playing conditions on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance and visitors were present from Pahiatua and Hamua Clubs. A flag competition was played, the winners in this being Miss I. Braggins- and Mr G. Atkinson. Tea was served by the ladies. In welcoming visitors and members Mr A. Morgan (club captain) said he hoped all had enjoyed the afternoon’s play and expressed pleasure at seeing so many present. Mr Morgan hoped that members would roll up and take part in qualifying rounds which had been arranged in order to get handicaps in order early this year. He thanked all who had helped in any way with arrangements for the opening function. Mr S. K. Siddells replied on behalf of the visitors. FEDERATION OF INSTITUTES. ELECTION OF NEW COMMITTEE. At the annual council meeting of Bush District Federation of Women’s Institutes held at Woodville, Mrs W. G. Macky, of Eketahuna, presided over a large attendance representative of 17 institutes. Associated with Mrs Macky were the following members of the executive:—Mesdames R. C. Austin (Pahiatua, secretary), T. Clarke (Pahiatua), W. R. Coulter (Ngawapurua), J. Dick (Hastwells), S. J. Hobbs (Hamua), C. Jennings (Makino), W. H. Nixon (Woodville, treasurer), and T. Avery Weston (Alfredton). The election of the new committee resulted as follows: —Mesdames R. C. Austin (Pahiatua), T. Clarke (Pahiatua), W. R. Coulter (Ngawapurua), J. Dick (Hastwells), S. J. Hobbs (Hamua), C. Jennings (Makuri), W. H. Nixon (Woodville), B. H. Norman (Hopelands), F. H. Schormann (Eketahuna), and T. Avery Weston (Alfredton). Miss Spencer took the chair for the election of president, Mrs Jennings being elected unopposed.
